Kid friendly experiments using color to show different reactions!
Step 1: Using Different Temperatures to Have Water Mix and Not Mix!
First add food coloring to visually see the water reactions. Fill each glass with cold water. Place a card on top of one glass and turn upside down to place on top of the other glass. Slowly remove the card. The reaction is instant.
Now fill one glass with warm water and the other glass with cold water. Continue the same way, but this time place the warm water on top. The result is amazing!
Step 2: Using a Mixture to Breakdown a Color Marker!
Take a glass of water and add a few teaspoons of alcohol. Position a coin in the center of a coffee filter and use a black color marker to make an outline of the coin. Take the coffee filter and place it on top of the glass but don't let it touch the mixture. You can use a rubber band to hold the coffee filter in place. Slowly push the coin down in to the mixture until it touches the mixture. Enjoy the reaction!
Step 3: Using a Mixture to Breakdown a Color Marker (Take It Up a Notch)!!!
This time only alcohol is used without water in a spray bottle. Go ahead and draw an illustration using all the colors you want on a coffee filter. Place the finished masterpiece on aluminum foil and start spraying!
Step 4: Make Your Own Lava Lamp!
Fill a glass container with vegetable oil 2/3 of the way. Add any food coloring to water and add it to the vegetable oil. The two mixtures will not combine so either add an entire tablet for a full show, or slowly add smaller pieces!
Step 5: Create Rainbow Water!
Place six glasses either in a circle or a line, which ever you prefer. Add food coloring to the glass, always leaving one glass just with water between the ones that have food coloring. Once you are done, start tearing strips of paper towels. Place one end of the paper towel in a glass that has food coloring and the other end into a glass with empty water. This is going to take awhile depending how how much water and food coloring you put in. Let it sit for awhile and when you come back you will get a surprise!
